According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams, and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.
Women of all ages are advised to be pro-active in regard to breast health, and are encouraged to perform self-checks each month. Conditions vary from woman to woman, and the Susan G. Komen organization provides a chart of 8 common warning signs for awareness: komen.org/BreastCancer/WarningSigns
If you discover any symptoms, see a healthcare provider.
